The Victorian Government is offering regional Victorians the opportunity to study the basic skills of interpreting through the Victorian Multicultural Commission’s 2010 Regional Interpreter Skills Course. Applications are currently open for courses in Morwell and Geelong and those interested in gaining a snapshot into the interpreting industry are encouraged to apply. The training particularly targets speakers of languages which are recognised by the Victorian Government as being in short supply for interpreting services, including (but not limited to) Burmese, Dari and Hazaragi - languages spoken in Afghanistan and Dinka and Nuer- which are widely spoken in the Horn of Africa. Applications close on 20 August for Morwell and 13 August for Geelong.
